Where the championships are played

Iceland's national championships are played on its 18-hole courses, most of them close to Reykjavík. Recent venues:

Choosing a course

Many visitors base themselves in Reykjavík, and 15 of the 19 courses are within 60 km of the city centre in a straight line, among them Akranes and Borgarnes. The other 4 are further afield: Flúðir, Hella, Vestmannaeyjar and Akureyri. Wind affects a round more than temperature does: our golf weather page (in Icelandic) scores every course from 0 to 10 for today and the coming days.

Midnight sun golf in Iceland

Around midsummer it stays light all night, and courses all over the country are played late into the evening. The best-known midnight golf event is the Arctic Open at Jaðarsvöllur, the course of Akureyri Golf Club in North Iceland – one of the northernmost 18-hole courses in the world. The tournament has been held around the summer solstice in June since 1986 and is open to amateurs and professionals, including players from abroad.

Green fees and booking

Published visitor fees for 18 holes range from ISK 7,900 (Þorláksvöllur) to ISK 24,900 (Hvaleyrarvöllur), usually for a weekday round. Members of clubs in the Golf Union of Iceland (GSÍ) often pay less. Many clubs take tee-time bookings through GolfBox; the links below go to each club's price list.
